We’re grateful to Hamilton City Magazine for covering the launch of the Hamilton Film Board and for helping to share our story with the community. Below is a summary of their article “Film industry premieres Hamilton Film Board” — we encourage you to read the full piece on their website.

Hamilton Film Board Launched to Boost Local Screen Industry

A new non-profit group called the Hamilton Film Board (HFB) has been formed by local industry leaders to strengthen Hamilton’s screen-based media ecosystem. Its mission is to elevate the city’s visibility, talent, infrastructure, and economic opportunities tied to film and television. (hamiltoncitymagazine.ca)

Key Goals & Mandate

  • Image, visibility, talent development, and economic success are the pillars of HFB’s mandate. They want Hamilton to become the “it” place to film.
  • Promote local creators, build stronger connections in the industry, and develop “top-tier crews, educational partnerships, diverse creators, and world-class production infrastructure.”
  • Close the gap between service productions (outside productions using Hamilton as location) and locally generated content. Support local artists so they can stay, grow, and succeed in Hamilton.

Leadership & Founders

The HFB is led by Hamilton-based producer Christopher Giroux (50+ features), who notes there has never been a more important time to invest in and support local stories and talent.

Other founding members include:

Ken Woychesko, Ann Pirvu, Christoph Benfey, Jeff Boulton, Mike Bruce, Nathan Fleet, Ali Goldthorpe, Danielle Rizzo, Matthew Watts, and Zach Zohr.

The HFB will work in concert with the City of Hamilton’s existing Film Office.

Upcoming Activations & Engagement

  • Supercrawl: HFB’s debut activation “Film Lives Here” will include live production demos, filmmaker panels, screenings, and behind-the-scenes experiences.
  • Hamilton Film Festival: This November, HFB will host a special initiative highlighting local productions, industry talent, and training opportunities.
